How to make a great project & get an internship?

After you heard your name being called for the interview, you rushed into the room.
You gave your resume and HR went through it.
Pause for a moment
How are you feeling at this moment? What are the thoughts crossing your mind?
I wish I had made great projects, done internships, and participated in hackathons. Today I would have had the courage to speak about it. Grabbed the highest package of our college. My name would be visible on posters across the campus. Every student, faculty, coordinators, company people, family, friends would have congratulated me.
Only dream?
Can I achieve the above mentioned things? How happy I would feel about myself if I could achieve it.
Let me tell you, if you are in a dark room and threw multiple arrows in hope of hitting the dart board, chances are very low. But if someone switches on the light, you can so easily hit the target right :D
In this article ill be trying to switch on light for you just as someone had done for me.
Students give their best, but only at the end moment
Students from various years (1st, 2nd and 3rd) start making projects. They learn new technologies and try to implement it. They give their best in making their projects since it will be included in resume. Most of us try to make projects that others have made.
1. Uniqueness
-> Interviewer has only 7s to go through the projects done by you.
-> Now tell me, if you and 100 others have done the projects like TicTacToe, Note making app, To do app etc. why will the interviewer choose you only and reject others?
-> At the end of this article, I would be sharing with you a unique project idea and how to get started with it.
2. User Interface
Mostly, the people going through your project wont be of the technical background who understand the coding part very well. Everyone of us likes things that are interesting and easy/simple.
Therefore, if your project's user interface is easy and attractive, it would be beneficial for you.
3. Database integration
-> Your app should have database implemented.
-> Every company has millions of data files to handle everyday. If your project shows some connection with database handling, your chances of getting selected increases by a bit!
-> Also, don't forget to use API
4. Hosting
Scenario 1: HR going through your github repo link
Scenario 2: HR going through your website which has visual presentation about your projects and HR is able to do use the interaction features implemented in the website.
You know better than me in which case your chances of selection are higher
A unique project that combines all the above mentioned points:
-> Portfolio website

  • Your details will be present (Background details, internships done, achievements)
  • You could add about yourself and keep updating it in later part of your life
  • It will be enjoyable process since you are writing about yourself
  • It is a specific website and unique unlike To-do apps, TicTacToe etc.
  • Its a project that could be updated with time unlike other projects that remain same once made
  • Recruiter could see your projects visually

I hope you found this article helpful, and I was able to show you the path you need to follow.
